New forms of media publishing

The new forms of media publishing is bringing all the people around the world together as well as making life easier. There are a few new media publishing that can be found in the cyberworld communities such as YouTube, Skype, Twitter and Facebook.

The new social media had arisen millions of content producers, and these content producers or readers had suddenly achieved a new level of power until we could change the way countries were run with one major initiative.
YouTube is an online video community which allows million of people to discover, watch and shared the video that you have created. (About YouTube, n.d.) YouTube.com was founded by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim in February, 2005. It was created for their friends to share their dinner party video clips as it was too large to email. But apparently, it has now become as ubiquitous as the mobile phones in our society. (Facts About YouTube, n.d.)

Below is an example of how powerful YouTube is :
George Allen was so confident about his Senate seat at first, he was already starting to visit early GOP presidential primary states in anticipation of an expected 2008 bid for the GOP presidential nomination. However, he had been brought down because of the publicly stating a racial slur on film which spread through media outlet like YouTube. (Welcome to the Fifth Estate, 2010)

What is good power point presentation?

Below are 3 simple rules to make a good powerpoint presentation -

i) match design to purpose - decide your what is your presentation is meant to be? is it for entertain purpose? persuade purpose? selling purpose? or whatnot.
ii) keep it simple - cut the clutter, no more than 2 font families were used, maximum one graphic image/chart is enough per slide.
iii) be consistent - go for the same color and fonts throughout and select same style graphic images. (Bear, n.d.)

So what is the purpose of creating a good powerpoint presentation? It is to grab viewer's attention, clearly communicate your presentation as well as stay in control ofyour presentation. (12 tips for creating better presentations, n.d.)

Figure 2.0

The above slides are not balance as the whole table should be on one page instead of seperating it into two. This caused unbalance. A page unbalance would probably jar the reader as the page filled with information followed by a page with only one column. (Reep, n.d.)

Besides, the presentation is not consistency. Consistency refers to presenting similar feature in similar style. (Reep, n.d.) The typeface which is the using the same style and size for headings or same kind of information should be applied. For example, the heading in figure 1.0 - The Differences and the heading in figure 3.0 - Introduction should be using the same font, size as well as style(bold/unbold).

However, one good thing about this presentation is graphic aids being created such as table and graphic images. It is essential in helping readers to understand more on the presented topic.

Blogging community

Blogging community is a platform for people to connect to blogs or for bloggers to stay connected by linking each other, for example blogged.my is one of the blogging communities in Malaysia. However, some said it is not necessarily occur in cyberspace, it can be happened offline as well. These blogging communities regularly hang out at their favourite spots to socialise, make friends and exchange ideas. (Anthony, 2009)

Now back to the cyberspace. There are many ways to build a sense of community in a blog. One of the important ways is to reply reader's comment. Most blogging software requires visitor to leave down their email address when they post a comment. For example, WordPress allows you to reply comment right on the site. Besides, WordPress has a Comment Email Responder, the function is your reply will be sent to the person who commented on your post as well as showing it on your site. (Mueller, 2009)

There are 3 types of blogging communities - one-blog-centric, topic-centric, and boundaried. One-blog-centric is a blog owned by one owner or an organisation. It is the first form of a blog based community to emerge readers begin returning to the blogger's sites. Topic-centric is a form of community arises between blog linked by a certain topic such as food bloggers, mummy bloggers and travel bloggers. Boundaried is collections of blogs and blog readers hosted on a single platform. (White, n.d.)
Friendster is considered as a boundaried community. It first started as a social network site for friends to stay connect to each other, later on they added blogs for their member to post things up.
